Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has paid tribute to Victorian Labor MP Peta Murphy, who has died after a long battle with breast cancer.

The 50-year-old who served as the Member for Dunkley has been remembered as a "brave" and "courageous" colleague.

"This Parliament was a better place for Peta Murphy being elected to the House of Representatives. This country was a better nation for her contribution."
