Intense first-person footage revealed the brutal reality of trench-fighting in Ukraine. The video was taken by a solider of the 47th Brigade fighting in Zaporizhzhia oblast. It shows a squad of soldiers fighting to gain control of a trench dug into a tree-line. Because the trench is so narrow, they are forced to fight in a long single-file line. With one soldier taking up the lead, and the others firing over his head. Video shows the soldier second in line using a grenade launcher to clear the trench. As the soldier in front fires his rifle and moves up to push the Russians back. The troops then swap places to share the risk of being shot by Putin’s men. Ukraine has broken Russia’s first line of defences in the south. And is now trying to fight its way through the second line. The goal is to reach the Sea of Azov and cut Russian supply lines to Crimea. But there is still a long way to go before they reach that objective.
