SAGHAR SIDDIQUI

Saghar Siddiqui, the Pakistani Urdu poet, born in Ambala (British India) in 1928, was a renowned saint poet who gained popularity with his slim appearance, wearing yellow silky cloth shirts and reciting beautiful ghazals in a melodious voice. He migrated to Pakistan in 1947 and settled in Lahore, where he wrote poetry for the film industry and published a literary magazine. However, his magazine was a critical success but a commercial flop, leading him to shut it down. Siddiqui fell into depression, became financially ruined and addicted to drugs, and chose to stay in cheap hotels, rather than settle into a house given by the government to refugees. He lived on the streets of Lahore, where he held mushairas on the footpaths, in candlelight, and continued to write poems until his death. Siddiqui was found dead on a street corner of Lahore at age 46, and his dog also died a year later, reportedly at the same spot. Despite his tragic life, his dhamaal song 'Laal Mori Pat Rakhio Bhala Jhoole Laalan De' and ghazal 'Hei Dua Yaad Magar Harf-e-Dua Yaad Nahin' are still popular today.

مکمل غزل کا اردو متن:

ہے دعا یاد مگر حرفِ دعا یاد نہیں
میرے نغمات کو اندازِ نوا یاد نہیں

میں نے پلکوں سے درِ یار پہ دستک دی ہے
میں وہ سائل ہوں جسے کوئی صدا یاد نہیں

میں نے جن کے لیے راہوں میں بچھایا تھا لہو
ہم سے کہتے ہیں وہی عہدِ وفا یاد نہیں

کیسے بھر آئیں سرِ شام کسی کی آنکھیں
کیسے تھرائی چراغوں کی ضیا یاد نہیں

صرف دھندلائے ستاروں کی چمک دیکھی ہے
کب ہوا کون ہوا کس سے خفا یاد نہیں

زندگی جبرِ مسلسل کی طرح کاٹی ہے
جانے کس جرم کی پائی ہے سزا یاد نہیں

آؤ اک سجدہ کریں عالمِ مدہوشی میں
لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ ساغرؔ کو خدا یاد نہیں

hai duā yaad magar harf-e-duā yaad nahīñ
mere naġhmāt ko andāz-e-navā yaad nahīñ

maiñ ne palkoñ se dar-e-yār pe dastak dī hai
maiñ vo saa.il huuñ jise koī sadā yaad nahīñ

maiñ ne jin ke liye rāhoñ meñ bichhāyā thā lahū
ham se kahte haiñ vahī ahd-e-vafā yaad nahīñ

kaise bhar aa.iiñ sar-e-shām kisī kī āñkheñ
kaise tharrā.ī charāġhoñ kī ziyā yaad nahīñ

sirf dhundlā.e sitāroñ kī chamak dekhī hai
kab huā kaun huā kis se ḳhafā yaad nahīñ

zindagī jabr-e-musalsal kī tarah kaaTī hai
jaane kis jurm kī paa.ī hai sazā yaad nahīñ

aao ik sajda kareñ ālam-e-mad.hoshī meñ
log kahte haiñ ki 'sāġhar' ko ḳhudā yaad nahīñ
