Ukraine said it had downed a record number of Russia’s Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles on January 2. Ukraine's Commander in Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi said Kyiv intercepted all 10 Kinzhals using the US-designed Patriot air defence systems. After the attack, the Ukrainian President thanked his Western partners for the air defence system and vowed a response against Russia. Earlier, Kyiv said Russia fired 99 missiles of different types towards Ukraine, aimed at Kyiv and Kharkiv, that killed at least five people and injured 127.
