Even as Western-supplied fighters jets such as F-16s are yet to hit the battleground in Ukraine, Moscow claims to have a strategy ready to tackle them. Moscow’s military is likely to use advanced long-range 40N6 class missiles of the S-400 air defense missile system to shoot down F-16s. These missiles, as per a Sputnik report, have already proven their effectiveness during Moscow's special operation.
Potentially, the S-400 will be able to hit F-16 aircraft with 40N6 missiles immediately after takeoff, a Russian defence ministry source told Sputnik. "These missiles are expected to become one of the main means, along with fighter aircraft, to destroy F-16s," the source specified.
As of today, two Western countries, the Netherlands and Denmark, have agreed to transfer F-16s to Ukraine.
