김정은, 11년 만에 어머니대회 참석 김주애 후계 계승 기반 구축?
North Korea said Monday it carried out the Fifth National Meeting of Mothers over the weekend in Pyongyang.
Some experts point out the day is more than just about showing respect for women and mothers.
For more, we're joined by Jacco Zwetsloot.
Good morning.
1. What is this National Meeting of Mothers about? Why is this day important to the North?
2. The leader Kim Jong-un himself acknowledged North Korea's low birth rate issue at the meeting.
But the birth rate issue in the North is nothing new though, right?
3. Could it be that Kim Jong-un is trying to speak highly of women including mothers and highlight women's roles to prepare the future for his daughter Ju-ae?
4. Some experts are saying that the meeting is also part of the North's efforts to further deepen the roots of capitalism? How?
5. Does the National Meeting of Mothers have anything to do with the North’s efforts to justify its missile and nuclear development from its people within the regime?
Thanks so much for your insight.
Have a great day.
