Mark Drakeford, the first minister of Wales, has announced his resignation.
Drakeford, 69, who has led the Welsh parliament for five years, told the Senedd on Wednesday that he would stand down with immediate effect, saying the “time has now come.” A leadership contest to find his successor will now be held.
His resignation comes a day after he launched an inquiry into one of his government’s ministers.
