STORYLINE:
Clouds of smoke were seen over the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning as the Israel-Hamas war continued.
Israel has been carrying out airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and is engaged in urban fighting in the north of the enclave.
It launched the operation against the militant group after the deadly Oct. 7 surprise incursion.
Israeli officials have confirmed 41 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the ground offensive began.
At least 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, mainly in the initial Hamas attack.
The Foreign Ministry had previously estimated the civilian death toll at 1,400, and gave no reason Friday for the revision.
Nearly 240 people abducted by Hamas from Israel remain captive.
More than 11,070 Palestinians, two-thirds of them women and minors, have been killed since the war began.
That's according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not differentiate between civilian and militant deaths.
Another 2,650 people have been reported missing.
The Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza is the only official source for Gaza casualties.
In previous wars, the ministry's counts have held up to United Nations scrutiny, independent investigations and even Israel's tallies.
