US Political Analyst Aidan Smith says Donald Trump winning the Iowa caucuses has “proven” the former president is “on track” to be the Republican nominee for the 2024 US Presidential election.
Mr Trump secured his victory in Iowa on Monday night local time – giving him an early bid to return to the White House.
“This caucus has pretty much proven that Donald Trump is on track to definitely be the nominee, which a year ago when DeSantis was polling much better, there were question marks around it,” Mr Smith told Sky News Australia.
“The only remaining thing is the New Hampshire primary.
"Irrespective of that it is very clear that Trump is …. basically the de facto nominee as it stands.”
