The ascension of King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark was a more “scaled down affair” when compared to the coronation of King Charles in the United Kingdom, according to news.com.au royal reporter Bronte Coy.
Mary became the first Australian woman to head a European royal family after her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe, abdicated the throne on New Year’s Eve.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen proclaimed Frederik the new King of Denmark on Monday morning.
“It did have golden carriages, an important feature at both of the coronations,” Ms Coy told Sky News Australia.
“It did have the balcony appearances - we have seen those photos of Frederik and Mary, and, of course, Charles and Camilla and the whole royal family last year.
“There were similarities in that way, but generally speaking, it was a much more muted affair.”
