Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council Executive Director Colin Rubenstein says the video Hamas released showing the death of two Israeli hostages was very traumatic for the Jewish community.
The video purportedly shows the bodies of hostages Yossi Sharabi and Itai Svirsky, with a third Israeli hostage saying IDF strikes killed the two.
Israel has refuted the claims saying the building in which the hostages were held was not attacked by the IDF, with the country's defence minister accusing the Palestinian militant group of carrying out psychological abuse.
“Israeli vulnerability has not been experienced like this before,” Mr Rubenstein told Sky News Australia.
“This is the worst massacre really that Israel’s ever experienced, and people forget that a couple hundred thousand have had to be evacuated both from the southern border and the northern border with Lebanon.”
