The Indian Navy has stepped up maritime surveillance in the north and central Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden amid the recent surge in drone attacks by Yemen-based Houthis on commercial ships sailing through international shipping lanes. In a statement, the Indian Navy said, "Naval task groups comprising destroyers and frigates have been deployed to undertake maritime security operations and help merchant vessels in case of any incident." The Indian Navy has deployed INS Kolkata, INS Kochi, INS Mormugao, INS Chennai, and INS Visakhapatnam, along with P-8I multi-mission aircraft and long-durability Sea Guardian drones.
