Rafah crossing, Gaza Strip - 18 December 2023
1. Various of convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian aid moving through Rafah crossing from Egypt and into Gaza
2. Various of trucks driving off into Gaza
STORYLINE:
A latest aid convoy passed through the Rafah crossing from Egypt into the Gaza Strip on Monday.
Gaza's population is surviving off a trickle of humanitarian aid amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
The US is expected to urge Israel to wind down its combat operations, while some of its European allies have joined global calls for a cease-fire.
The war has flattened large parts of northern Gaza, killed thousands of civilians and driven most of the population to the southern part of the besieged territory, where many are in crowded shelters and tent camps.
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees has said the current level of aid being brought into Gaza, largely of necessities like fuel, food and medicine, is far from enough with an estimated more than 60% of the territory's infrastructure destroyed in the conflicted.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel “will continue to fight until the end,” with the goal of eliminating Hamas, which triggered the war with its October 7 attack into southern Israel.
Palestinian militants killed some 1,200 people that day, mostly civilians, and captured scores of hostages.
