Israel says it has retaken “full control over” the Gaza border as it works to close the gaps in the fence.
The country’s military said it believed Hamas gunmen who crossed during Saturday’s surprise attack were still hiding in the area but that there had been no new infiltrations from Gaza since Monday.
“We have gained full control over the border fence in the Gaza Strip. In the last day, not a single terrorist entered the fence,” an Israel defence forces (IDF) spokesman said this morning. The country is planting mines in the parts where the barrier was toppled during the weekend’s mass incursion, the chief military spokesman said.
