This video includes some discussion of how it seems the learning process, and all that time and repetition, can influence what you find difficult or easier. Specifically, I find subjects in profile to be much more difficult than other facial angles, which I think is largely due to how I built and practiced my processes around other views. I lean heavily on a cross to roughly place features - horizontal line for eyes, vertical line for the nose and middle of mouth. Profiles render that approach mostly useless for positioning, so this is something that needs its own repetitions and consideration.
