Husam Zomlot, head of the Palestinian Mission to the UK, has claimed there is an "international consensus" on the need to establish a "state of Palestine" with Jerusalem as its capital.
He was reacting to Israeli ambassador Tzipi Hotovely's interview with Sky News, in which she said Israel would "absolutely" not accept a two-state solution when the war with Hamas ends.
Speaking to Sky's Mark Austin, Mr Zomlot said the Israeli government has always taken this view and the ambassador's comments "should not have been shocking".
