Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev visited the Nagorno-Karabakh breakaway region on Monday and said that Armenia would have to answer for the damage caused to the area by military actions, following a ceasefire that would see Azerbaijan keep territorial gains made in the fighting.
Aliyev raised the national flag in Jabrayil and walked along the riverside near the ancient Khodaafarin Bridgeshis wife, Mehriban Aliyev, and later was welcomed by local citizens in the Fuzuli district.
During his visit, the president said that Armenians would be brought to international courts for the damage that affected the region for the "last 30 years."
Since fighting erupted on Sept. 27, Azerbaijan says it has retaken much of the land in and around Nagorno-Karabakh that it lost in a 1991-94 war in which an estimated 30,000 people were killed.
