The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, denounced the UN security council after the US vetoed a resolution on an urgent ceasefire in Gaza.

The vote in the 15-member council was 13-1, with the UK abstaining. 'Is this justice?' Erdoğan asked, speaking at a human rights conference in Istanbul. He said the UN needed to be reformed, adding that the security council had protected Israel since the war began on 7 October.
