A far-right libertarian, he defeated left-wing rival Sergia Massi on November 19th, in a victory that analysts have described as a “political earthquake” that sent tremors down Argentina’s socialist spine.

Milei — an economist and TV pundit — has established a reputation as a disruptor. His signature campaign promise is to ‘blow up’ the central bank, and replace the local peso with the U.S. dollar.

In an unauthorised biography, author Juan Luis González documented Milei's troubled childhood in Buenos Aires and how he came to be known as ‘El Loco’, in school itself.
