As Israel continues to launch dozens of strikes on Khan Yunis, the main town in southern Gaza, its military says that it is "getting closer and closer to defeating Hamas", though the Palestinian militant group denies this, reports FRANCE 24's Robert Parsons from Israel. According to Israel, it has begun to "eat into the command structures of Hamas", adds Parsons. Although the Israeli military hasn't managed to capture any senior leaders of Hamas, 140 Hamas fighters have surrendered since the late November week-long truce. While "the Israelis are no doubt in a hurry because the international pressure on them is mounting" to call for a ceasefire, "the likelihood of any truce, let alone a ceasefire is remote" as they are determined to continue with this war until their goal of defeating Hamas has been achieved, says Parsons.
