Sir Keir Starmer has blasted Rishi Sunak's Rwanda plan as a "gimmick" but said the UK has to stop the boats.
Speaking during a keynote speech, the Labour leader said his party will vote down today's Safety of Rwanda Bill in the Commons, with the Prime Minister desperately scrambling about to avoid a revolt from within his own party.
Sir Keir vowed Labour would use the money “being wasted on the Rwanda scheme” to step up cross-border policing to tackle human trafficking gangs and speed up asylum claim processing, with those refused permission to stay sent back to their country of origin.
