Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is set to block a nine per cent increase in the BBC licence fee due to inflation, warning that the corporation has to be ‘realistic’ about what the public can afford.
The annual fee is due to jump by almost £15 to £173.30 in April 2024, in what would be the biggest single increase for almost 40 years.
The Talk panelist Daisy McAndrew says: “The BBC are doing too much! You don’t need your national broadcaster to do millions of different channels.”
Ed Vaizey adds: "The BBC crowds out a lot of what the private sector does. The only way to reform it is to give it less money!"
