It’s been three days since a female red kangaroo escaped from its handlers at the Oshawa Zoo and Fun Farm in southwestern Ontario, Canada.
The curious marsupial was on its way to Québec on Thursday, before making its escape during the brief stopover in Oshawa.
The animal was last seen hopping around the Durham region on Friday by Oshawa Zoo parks supervisor, Cameron Preyde, who also tried his luck at catching the escapee with a large net.
Haiqa Tahir, a local to the region, actually captured Preyde’s attempt to net the kangaroo with a camera. “I’m just a guy with a net,” Preyde told Global News jokingly.
But the approaching winter and cold weather could become a problem for the kangaroo. Preyde said kangaroos can withstand temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius, but beyond that it “becomes risky.”
