Late on Saturday Hamas’s armed wing said it had handed over a further 20 hostages to the International Committee for the Red Cross. They included 13 Israelis, thought to be eight children and five women and a number of foreign nationals, who were to be exchanged for 39 Palestinian prisoners.
Among those freed was nine-year-old Emily Hand, a dual Irish-Israeli national who was seized from the Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7. Her father Thomas Hand, from Dublin, awaited her arrival in a hospital in Israel. He had earlier told The Sunday Times that he feared she would have been “terrorised every day”.
