Two people died and a border guard was injured when a car careered at high speed into a US border post on the Niagara River, smashing into a central reservation and lifting into the air before exploding in a ball of fire.
The car “crashed into a customs and border patrol booth and the car and the booth immediately exploded”, the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, said last night. She called the incident an “horrific accident” and said there was no sign that it was a terrorist attack, despite initially prompting an FBI investigation.
Video footage of the crash at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls was “jaw dropping”, she said. “It was surreal to see how high in the air this vehicle went and then the crash and the explosion and the fire.”
