Israel and Hamas have agreed to a temporary pause in the war that will enable the release of about 50 people who have been held captive in Gaza since the Hamas armed group stormed southern Israel on October 7, in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli jails. The release of hostages under a temporary truce between Israel and Hamas terrorists will not happen before Friday, Israel's national security adviser said on Wednesday night. Earlier on Wednesday, Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza for at least four days, to let in aid and free at least 50 hostages held by Hamas in the Palestinian region in exchange for at least 150 Palestinians jailed in Israel. According to Israel's public broadcaster Kan, there was a 24-hour delay in the agreement because the deal was not signed by Hamas and mediator Qatar. The official said they were optimistic the agreement will be implemented when it is signed.
