The UK's chief medical adviser, Chris Whitty, told the Covid inquiry on Tuesday that decision-making under Boris Johnson, the prime minister during the pandemic, was 'quite often chaotic' and that civil servants did a good job in very difficult circumstances.

He went on to say the way Johnson took decisions was 'unique to him' but would not go further, adding that he does not want to make a commentary on politicians.
