Richard Marles and Penny Wong have met their Indian counterparts in New Delhi as they hope to bolster security ties between the two nations.

The Defence and Foreign Ministers underlined the importance of the relationships for each country.

Richard Marles arrived in India on Sunday to watch Australia's win in the Cricket World Cup final.

The talks come two weeks after India hosted the US Secretaries of State and Defence.

Australia and India are part of the Quad, which is an alliance with the US and Japan seeking to limit China's influence in the region.
