►Nothern lights
Northern lights is the magic that we all want to see and As Lofoten lies in the Arctic Circle, so chances of seeing them are high, that along with Lofoten’s warm weather, thanks to the Gulf Stream that makes Lofoten an ideal place to see the Northern Lights. But, just be aware that the weather here is a bit trikier, so try not to have your heart set on seeing the aurora only, while you are here. However, when you see it, its magic.
We were lucky enough to spot some really nice-bright-dancing aurora borealis during our stay there
► Travelling Tip:
1 - Most Scandinavian countries are cashless i.e. it might be difficult to trade with hard cash, so it’s better to have bank cards which will work there at no or minimal transaction fees.
2 - As it’s a coastal area and moreover it falls under arctic circle, so weather can change at short notice or no notice at all. So, you should be ready for such changes.
3 - Travel insurance is highly recommended if you are travelling to Scandinavian countries.
4 - If you are planning to stay in rorbuer you should bring your groceries with you, and if its a weekend Then you should definitely be thoughtful for your food supplies, because in winters there are not much travelers so most of the shops, restaurants remain closed or they open for short duration only and sometimes there could not be any shops or restaurant.
5 - In Sundays the restaurant’s are not open till late so if you are planning to eat outside be mindful for the restaurant hours
6 - We had one of the best fish soup ever in the restaurant just next to Reine Bus stop. It is a small cozy place but food was very good.
7 - As per locals, the area on the north coast from the Viking museum and a bit further north, has more stable conditions to spot the Aurora and of course the midnight sun
8 - When you are travelling in the direction of Å, for the best views, we certainly recommend you to sit on the left side of the car or bus you are travelling in
9 - Anita’s seafood, one of the famous food joint in the area Sakrisoya, if you are a sea food lover then do try the fish burger there is really good.
