This story is about a little pumpkin who wants to make Mother Vine proud of him. He has heard her tell another vine that she will grow only jack-o-lanterns, and he is worried about that because he doesn’t know how to be a jack-o-lantern. He is so unhappy that the sunbeams and merry little breezes ask him what is wrong. When he explains, they laugh and tell him to just enjoy being a pumpkin and not worry about what will happen later. He listens to them and just thinks about eating and growing. When the fall arrives, and the children come, will he be the pumpkin they choose?
