“We came from the Al-Sahaba area. The road was open. The Jews (Israeli troops) were standing on the side of the road, taking those they suspected, the children of foreigners, like these sons of mine. They took them and asked them about their names, father’s name, place of residence, age, after that they left them. They take whoever they suspect. The road is clear. On Salah al-Din Street, the road is clear.”

7. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Fedaa Shangan, displaced from Northern Gaza:
“I had a caesarean section in the hospital (in Al Quds hospital), and the wound is still fresh. I feel tired, and there is pain in my leg. The occupation army stormed the hospital yesterday with tanks and bulldozers and bombarded us with mortar shells. They did not care about the presence of patients, children, women and the elderly. They did not care about anyone. Their goal was bombing. They carried out massacres as they wanted. We walked on Salah al-Din Street. They searched young men and elderly men while they were naked. They humiliated them in an unnatural way. We are displaced people and we were in the hospital."

STORYLINE:
Palestinians continued to flee northern Gaza on Sunday as Israel’s military pushed deeper into dense urban neighborhoods in its battle with Hamas militants.
They joined a growing exodus of people heading toward the south to escape the fighting as Gaza officials said the Palestinian death toll from the war surpassed 11,000 people.
But the search for safety in the besieged enclave has grown increasingly desperate.
Gaza City is the focus of Israel’s campaign to crush Hamas following its deadly Oct. 7 incursion — and the Israeli military says Hamas’ main command center is located in and under the Shifa Hospital complex.
The militant group and hospital staff deny that claim, saying the military is creating a pretext to strike it.
Israeli officials have confirmed 41 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the ground offensive began.
At least 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, mainly in the initial Hamas attack.
The Foreign Ministry had previously estimated the civilian death toll at 1,400, and gave no reason on Friday for the revision.
Nearly 240 people abducted by Hamas from Israel remain captive.
More than 11,070 Palestinians, two-thirds of them women and minors, have been killed since the war began.
That's according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not differentiate between civilian and militant deaths.
Another 2,650 people have been reported missing.
The Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza is the only official source for Gaza casualties.
In previous wars, the ministry's counts held up to United Nations scrutiny, independent investigations and even Israel's tallies.
