The main Urdu section of the qawwali is written by Hazrat Ambar Shah Warsi of the Warsiyah Sufi Order. Many people have to come to know them as ones who wear Saffron-colored robes. The Sufi chain has sprung from a well-known Sufi Saint, Hazrat Waris Ali Shah Sahib of Dewa from the late 1800s. Not to be confused by Warish Shah from the 1700s that wrote much illustrious Sufi poetry in Punjabi.
Anyways, mixed in with this qawwali is also the poetry of Hazrat Sheikh Saadi Shirazi. "Balagal Ula" is written by Saadi, while Ambar Shah has written "Sirre La Makaan" to explain Saadi's work. Both are intertwined. Both speak of the same subject matter and both are created in the same rhythm.
It is said that when Saadi was composing this naat, he wasn't able to write the final closing verse. While working on it, he dozed off. In his dream, Prophet Muhammad came with other Sahaba. Saadi was asked why he looked troubled. Saadi relayed the problem he was having with the 4th verse. Prophet Muhammad smiled and asked him to recite as much as he's completed so far. Saadi recited:
"Balaghal Ula, Ba Kamalihi
Kashafad Duja, Ba Jamalihi
Hasonat Jamiyo Khisaalihi"
The Prophet then added the final verse:
"Sallu Alehi Wa Aalihi"
This is why this particular naat of Sheikh Saadi is revered by so many because Prophet Muhammad himself took part in composing part of it.
So I guess, Ghulam Farid Sabri, easily took his Sufi Master's work, and very easily was able to amalgamate with Saadi's written naat. What a beautiful mixture of words. In many ways, Urdu speakers wouldn't have still known the meaning of what Saadi was talking about. But Ambar Shah explained well and Ghulam Farid simply took it to the next level with the delivery.
