The Running Man (1987) could quite possibly be one of Schwarzenegger's most iconic roles of his historic career.
In a dystopian future, Schwarzenegger plays the role of an official who is falsely accused of murdering civilians. He is sent to a labor camp that he breaks out of and tries to flee the country but is caught and put on a brutal TV show. The task, is to make it to the end of the course in 3 hours or less. The twist? You have to do so whilst you are being hunted down by champions loved by the public with an array of different weapons to tackle their opponents with.
In this absolute thriller of a movie, Schwarzenegger defeats all the challenges, takes on the TV network and topples the government whilst also managing to let out some of the best one-liners in cinematic history.
