"Donald Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, took the highly unusual step of predicting that a specific Supreme Court justice will rule in her client’s favor. Her comment came after his legal team asked the court to overturn a state decision barring him from the ballot.
Last month, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump must be removed from the ballot because he engaged in “insurrection” after losing the 2020 election, culminating in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The court ruled such an act bars Trump from holding federal office under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which states that federal officeholders must not have engaged in “insurrection or rebellion.”
This week, Trump’s lawyers asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overrule the decision. Trump also asked the Supreme Court to invalidate a decision by Maine’s secretary of state to remove him from the ballot due to insurrection."
