On June 10, 2023, in Watertown, Wisconsin, an on duty officer was involved in a pursuit of a vehicle that was involved in a hit and run incident earlier in the day. The pursuit was eventually terminated, however, a thorough description was given of the vehicle and driver. After speaking with the registered owner and viewing security footage from the residence, the driver was identified. Officers located the driver, named Austin, who reportedly suffered from mental health issues and attempted to speak with him about the incident that occurred.
Austin was immediately argumentative and repeatedly stated he did not drive the vehicle despite officers stating they had multiple pieces of evidence, including a verbal interview with the registered owner of the vehicle and security footage of Austin getting out of the vehicle.
Austin made claims that he was going to commit self-harming acts and eventually he did fall off the roof he was on. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured. Austin was arrested transported to the hospital for medical clearance. He attempted to bite and kick hospital staff and was ultimately sedated to allow staff to complete their evaluation. He was ultimately put through CT scans and x-rays, and was medically cleared.
Austin was charged with vehicle operator fleeing or eluding an officer, two counts of resisting or obstructing an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, four counts of felony bail jumping, and operating while revoked. He was found guilty of one count of resisting or obstructing an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of felony bail jumping.
