Ireland has shared a unique history with the Palestinian cause throughout both state’s histories, with a large bed of support amongst Irish citizens and a track record of government support for pro-Palestinian laws and motions.
Shared experiences of British occupation and partition have raised comparisons between the two countries, and this has extended through Irish politicians, paramilitaries and members of the public to this very day.
But, for a country some 2,600 miles away, how did Ireland become one of the most vocal western supporters for Palestine?
