Into Alaska - The Heavy Rains Begin | 10-Days Family Camping in the Alaskan & B.C. Wilderness E.10
There was a bit of sun in the morning and the rain died when we were breaking camp at the base of cirque mountain. It was a beautiful spot to call home for the night.
Soon we were back on the river and had to deal with some tricky currents including boils and whirlpools before getting into the main flow of the river. Soon. Nasty rains picked up and wouldn’t stop later that day. We did get to a nice campsite soon enough and set up our trusty tarp again. Hudson and I went for a hike and Hudson found a place where wolves had killed and eaten a beaver. Hudson found the beaver skull and brought it back to camp to show Tori. Or was a great way to teach him about nature, showing him the wolf prints and poop at the site of the kill.
Rain kept up and we stopped for inch where a massive waterfall tumbled down a mountains side from the clouds. It was beautiful. Travelling in, Hudson kept himself entertained by throwing rocks in the water but eventually wanted Tori to hold onto him as he took a nap. Not an easy thing to do when you’re trying to paddle.
The rain was cold and still pouring down. It’d been a downpour for hours now and it was starting to become discouraging. We were looking for a cabin marked on our maps but the map notations were made 30 years ago. Finally we pulled over and Tori had decided that we weren’t going to find it. Is she right or wrong? Stay tuned for next episode to see what happens.
