Donald Trump has joked he wouldn’t become a dictator if he wins the next presidential election, “except for day one”.
The former US president took part in a town hall hosted by Fox News in Iowa, where the first caucuses of the 2024 campaign take place next month.
Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump if he would promise America to “never abuse power as retribution against anybody”.
“Except for day one,” Trump replied.
“We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling – after that I’m not a dictator,” he added.
