North Caldwell Police Report:
On 1/1/2023 at 0030 hours, I, Ofc. Moskalow, and Detective Herbert, were dispatched in the area of 36 Sagamore Dr. for a stolen motor vehicle that was being tracked by Sirius XM described as a white Acura SUV. Upon arrival I was canvassing the area when a Verona PD unit stopped and got out of their vehicle at the upper apartment complex (300-400s) of Hilltop Dr. Verona Officer McMahon attempted to make contact with the vehicle when it abruptly fled. I then saw the vehicle in question drive into multiple vehicles then off the road and over a cliff onto the lower apartment complex.
I immediately activated my BWC and went down to the lower level apartments. I then drew my service weapon when I saw the vehicles driver, later identified as Yassin Seamon, take off on foot towards Sagamore Drive. I took off after the suspect on foot when he went down into a dark wooded area where I had lost sight of him. At that time, I requested a Verona unit canvas the area of Elm road for that suspect.
I then returned to the scene of the accident where one occupant, later identified as Alexus McFieldsumler, was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest and placed in the back of Vehicle 22. Several minutes later WEFAS 775 took Ms. McFieldsumler into their ambulance for a medical evaluation.
Verona PD notified Detective Herbert and I that they had one male in custody. The party was later identified as Yassin Seamon. Mr. Seamon was identified as the male party that fled from me on foot.
Mr. Seamon was transported to a local Hospital for further evaluation of his injuries with Verona PD on board. Detective Herbert later responded to the Hospital. It was at this time Mr. Seamon was charged on a summons and was personally handed his charges. Mr. Seamon was still being treated by medical staff due to his injuries.
