The government is “very, very close” to announcing a solution for the victims of the Horizon scandal as Rishi Sunak hopes to unveil plans today.
Sunak could use prime minister’s questions to set out his plans, which may involve quashing the convictions of hundreds of postmasters.
Kevin Hollinrake, the postal affairs minister, said an announcement was “imminent” and that ministers believe they have found a “solution” but that this was awaiting final sign-off.
Paula Vennells could lose her bonus if she is found to be responsible for prolonging the scandal, a minister said.
Kevin Hollinrake, the postal affairs minister, told the BBC: “We don’t know Paula Vennells is the guilty party yet, at this point in time we can’t say you are the person responsible. It may well be that [removing bonuses] could be a sanction we place on her.”
