Hezbollah JUST DESTROYED $1 Billion Iron Dome in SHOCKING Attack over Israeli City
This is the first time Hezbollah has targeted Israel's air missile defence system since cross-border fighting erupted on Oct. 8, one day after Hamas' massive "al-Aqsa Flood" onslaught on southern Israel.
Hezbollah spokesperson stated that this operation "corresponds with a type of military tactic whose judgement is left to the leaders of the Resistance, as the sayyed said, the terrain speaks for itself," referring to a common Hezbollah sentiment implying that official statements are unnecessary because operations on the ground convey the party's messages well enough.
Israel's Iron Dome is a complex and expensive defence system. Since its inception in 2011, the short-range missile defence system has intercepted 85 to 90 percent of all missiles launched. The system, which consists of guided missiles, radars, and a control centre with missile launchers, can intercept missiles in mid-air. A whole battery, including radars, command and control, and missile launchers, costs roughly $100 million, with each guided missile costing up to $50,000.
Israel is heavily reliant on American assistance to maintain this protective shield working. Under the current memorandum of understanding, signed in 2016, the US agrees to pay Israel with $38 billion in military aid over a ten-year period, from 2019 to 2028, through the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programme, with $5 billion set aside for missile defence. The United States Congress authorised an additional one billion dollars over two years for the Iron Dome's anti-aircraft defence in 2022.
At the start of the Hamas-Israel war, a US Department of Defense official confirmed the Pentagon's intention to give Israel with two of its own antimissile defence systems, underlining the two countries' growing defence relations in the face of mounting regional tensions.
