Donald Trump, via his legal team, tried to convince a judge last week to delay his defamation trial, but the judge wouldn't have it. Trump's team argued that he needed to be with his family to help with arrangements for Melania's mother's funeral, but it turns out that this was a lie. Trump actually scheduled a campaign event for the week AFTER the judge shot down his weak argument, so he had no intention of being with his family. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

Well, folks, it looks like Donald Trump and his legal team might not have been being completely honest with the judge that is overseeing the latest Eugene Carroll defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump, which begins Tuesday. But in a filing late last week that of course, judge Kaplan immediately shot down. But Trump's lawyers had argued that by gosh, judge, we're gonna have to postpone this trial because as you know, poor Donald Trump lost his mother-in-law last week. Uh, Melania, his mother passed away, so he's gonna need to be with the family, they said Wednesday and Thursday to, you know, help make funeral arrangements, you know, be there for the actual ceremony, uh, celebration of life. So, uh, we gotta postpone the trial. Sorry, judge. Life happened and the judge said, no, I'm, uh, I'm not gonna do that, so I'll see you next week. And of course, the rest is history except for the fact that after, after the judge told Trump, no, you cannot skip the trial, or we cannot delay the trial, I guess I should say, for you to go attend your mother-in-law's funeral.

Do you know what Donald Trump did? He didn't schedule his big Trump plane to just take him to and forth, uh, you know, from New York to Mar-a-Lago each day so he could be with his family and help, uh, because, you know, that's actually a thing he could do. He has his own plane. You know, you've allegedly got billions of dollars. Like that's not a big deal for you to just make that trip each day. I mean, but it's a bit of a hassle. Sure, but you, you physically could do it. But instead, Donald Trump did not make jet arrangements. He made campaign arrangements. And on those two days that he said, Hey, I've gotta be with my family, he instead scheduled campaign events, which means their previous request to the judge was in fact not exactly honest. Now it is against the law to lie to a judge.

So a lot of people may be thinking, oh wow, well that's, that's a criminal offense. It's technically not in this specific instance, because there could have been, and the key word there being could have been a real need for Donald Trump, or even a desire for him to be with his family. And since the judge said, no, I'm not gonna let you do that, he could have said, well, screw it, then I'll just do some campaign events rather than, as I suggested doing the jet back and forth type thing. Or, because I don't even think he has to be in person at this trial. He could have just not gone, you know, and fulfilled his duty to his family. So it'd be hard to actually prove that Trump's lawyers intentionally lied to the judge. So I don't think anybody's looking at any kind of criminal liability here. But again,

You have options when it comes to being with your family in this time of need. I mean, you could actually, for once in your life, be a decent husband. You know, say, okay, listen, I trust my lawyers. They're gonna handle this case for me. I don't have to be here, so I'm gonna go be with my family. And then I'll show up after a couple days. Or you could say, Hey, listen, I know it's gonna be a pain in the butt, but I'm gonna fly back each day after the trial ends. I'll head up there early in the morning, I'll leave at 5:00 AM I'll be there by 7:30 AM plenty of time to get to the courtroom. I can do this because I have my own plane and lots of money. But he decided not to. He said, you know what?
