India’s smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is in limelight since PM Modi’s visit earlier this month. The archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq km is undoubtedly one of the most scenic beach destinations in Asia. It is a uni-district Union Territory and comprises of 12 atolls, three reefs, five submerged banks and ten inhabited islands. Several travel portals are witnessing all-time high searches for the country's beach destinations besides Lakshadweep. Make My Trip, an online travel company, said in a statement that besides the high level of curiosity in Lakshadweep, the searches for Daman, another beach destination, have increased by over 350 per cent. Recently, Government-led tourism activities, managed by SPORTS (Society for Promotion of Nature Tourism and Sports), include the iconic Paradise Island huts. A new proposal under the Smart City initiative aims to introduce a 90-room hotel. In the private sector, India's first water villa project, initiated by an Indian group, stands out as a major endeavour. The archipelago gained attention for its natural beauty, particularly after Prime Minister Modi's recent visit.
