Menzies Research Centre's Nick Cater says Penny Wong needs to “get with the plot” and stand in solidarity with Israel.
His comments come as the Foreign Minister has announced an additional $21.5 million of aid to be sent to Gaza and is currently facing backlash for refusing to visit the sites of the October 7 attacks while in Israel.
“The decision not to visit the site of those October 7 pogroms is shocking, appalling, embarrassing,” Mr Cater told Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson.
“I’m embarrassed for Australia, and I’m embarrassed for my Israeli friends.
“Sending aid money to Gaza right now? That is madness. That is absolutely bonkers.”
“I just think it’s time for her to get with the plot on this one and realise what every decent political democracy around the world is doing which is standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel – no if’s, no but’s Penny Wong. Just get with the plot.”
