Every South African expat knows that December means tuistyd (hometime). There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of Cape Town streets come the first weekend of December. The beaches are livened by foreigners and locals alike, romances are found in the most unexpected of places ("It was a situationship by the time they left Leo's and sat down at Tomson's"), and you wouldn't dare play anything besides yanos or gqom, unless you wanted to be looked at twice over. But, due to circumstances I won't mention, I was entrusted with bringing 'Dezemba' to Portugal this season.
I went into the month thinking that I would find myself quite isolated, but quickly grew into the gap and settled into the quietness. I wrote and read a lot, wandered through the city's maze, and was contented to find warmth from and in some unexpected places and people. Of course, this is just a keyhole glimpse of some of those moments.
As always, thanks for spending time!
