- This is a mistake I see countless people make, and this was something I didn’t do for a few years when I started lifting. I was always skinny growing up, but I was confused as to why I didn’t have any abs showing despite having little to no fat. It wasn’t until I realized that if you don’t have a developed core, it doesn’t matter how lean you get there, there will still be nothing there to show for it. And that’s why this strategy is extremely important. Your core is just like any other muscle group, and it responds with growth whenever you challenge it with any kind of resistance.
Second strategy: Losing weight.
- I want to discuss some strategies that you can implement to put you on the right track to losing stubborn belly fat and exposing your abs.
Now the first thing that you can do to lower your weight is to control your diet. I heard a great saying that abs are made in the gym and shown in the kitchen and that’s super true! You can do all the weight training you want but if you are eating 2000 calories above your daily recommended caloric intake, you will be putting on fat and going in the opposite direction. The general caloric recommendation for the average adult is 2000 calories for women and 2500 calories for men.
Now the second tip for weight loss that I want to discuss is increasing your daily steps. Now this is something that is undervalued by many, and most people don’t even view walking as an exercise. But most Americans and people are sitting the majority of the day, and only walk when they need to go to the bathroom or to go and eat food. See the problem here? ACSM recommends getting 10,000 steps per day for adults.
