India last week abstained from voting on a resolution at the UN General Assembly calling for an immediate humanitarian truce in the devastating Israel-Hamas war — its decision attributed to the resolution’s failure to condemn the Hamas for its 7 October terror attack on Israel. India was among 45 countries that abstained, while 14 others voted against the non-binding resolution, which was ultimately passed with 120 votes in its favour. In Ep 1338 of Cut The Clutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta looks at India’s votes at the UN through the years, how they have reflected in the country’s foreign policy, and what these votes say about geopolitical alignments at any given point.
