Music-loving Sydney’s got a lot going on, what with navigating her way through middle school, trying to negotiate a bit more freedom from her protective dad, and not to mention keeping her grandma in check! ?
Set in the present day with flashbacks to the 1990s, Sydney to the Max revolves around 12-year-old Sydney Reynolds (Ruth Righi) who lives with her single dad Max (Ian Reed Kesler) and her open-minded grandmother Judy (Caroline Rhea). ?
As Sydney navigates her preteen years, Max does his best to guide and support her while grandma tries to remind him that Sydney’s antics are not too dissimilar to a younger Max’s (Jackson Dollinger) back in the 90s.
So while Sydney and Max may not always see eye to eye, will they discover that they actually have more in common than they realise?
Sydney is outgoing and ambitious. ✨ She loves music, especially playing her bass guitar, and spending time with her best friend Olive. She is starting to get to the age where she wants a bit more independence from her dad Max and while she tries to be open and honest with him, sometimes she gets frustrated that he doesn’t see things from her point of view. However Sydney knows deep-down that Max is doing his best and he is always the first person she turns to when she needs advice. ❤️
Max is a loving dad who is trying to figure out this whole parenting thing. He can sometimes be a bit cringy, what with his dad dancing and jokes, and tends to be a little too over-protective. ? However, he is pretty awesome most of the time and can be very understanding, after all he used to be a kid too!
Judy is a fun-loving grandma who always supports Sydney’s crazy plans. ? She understands what it’s like to be a 12-year-old with big dreams, as she remembers Max at that age. Although the show’s flashbacks prove that she was a little stricter as a mum in the 90s than she is as a grandma now! ?
Olive is Sydney’s BFF. ? She is very organised and likes to be prepared for anything. ? She often finds herself trying to stop Sydney from getting into trouble. Although the friends are very different, Olive is also quirky and silly and they love hanging out together and are always there for each other. ?
90s Max is a bit of a rebel and is often getting into trouble. He doesn’t always see eye to eye with his mum, especially when he wants to get a piercing or dye his hair. ?‍♂️ He loves skateboarding and spending time with his best friend Leo.
Leo is Max’s best friend and always has his back. He is sensible and dependable and often tries (unsuccessfully! ?) to keep Max from getting into trouble. ?
