This 1999 30-minute video by the Pennsylvania Wild Resource Conservation Fund explores some of Pennsylvania's remaining old-growth forest stands, as well as emphasizes the acute importance of protecting today large tracts of public lands in Pennsylvania's second and third growth forests from all forms of development, so that they may with time eventually grow into impressive stands with emerging old-growth forest ecological characteristics.
A prime candidate for such permanent protection is the 9,700-acre proposed Tracy Ridge Wilderness Area in the Allegheny National Forest:
