Greek Souvlaki is one of the most popular and famous Greek Street Foods in the World, which we would like to introduce to you today in this “Street Food in Berlin” Episode. The Greek souvlaki consists of Pork marinated in Salt, Pepper and Lemon Juice or Vinegar, which, after marinating, is threaded onto Wooden Skewers and grilled. Souvláki is a typical Greek Snack and Fast Food Dish and is usually eaten directly on a Wooden Skewer in Greece, with a little Lemon Juice, Salt, Oregano, some Pita Bread and Tzatziki. Souvlaki, which translates as Skewers, is quick to make and is offered at every Snack Bar in Greece.
Since there were no grilled Original Souvlaki like those from Greece in Berlin, Christos from EKLEKTON felt obliged to bring the Handmade and Traditionally Produced Souvlaki to Berlin. And you can taste his love for Good Food!
[1] Pork
The Dish consists of pickled pork, which, after marinating, is threaded onto wooden skewers and grilled.
[2] Vinegar
In Greece, souvláki can be marinated with either lemon juice or vinegar.
[3] The marinated meat has to be rest for a few hours
The marinade's exposure time should be at least 12 hours before or after skewering so that the seasoning can develop as deeply as possible in the meat.
[4] Tzatziki
Tzatziki is a starter and side dish from Greek cuisine consisting of Greek yogurt (with 10% fat), cucumber, olive oil, spices and garlic.

[6] Oregano from Peloponnese
Greek oregano, with its high proportions of essential oils, which are crucial for the taste, is considered to be the one with the most intense scent and best taste.
[7] Greek Pita Bread
While Arabic flatbread has a hollow pocket that is usually filled, Greek flatbread is soft-fluffy, slightly thicker and has no pocket shape.
[8] Homemade Greek Vegetable Stew
The vegetable stew consists, among other things, of tomatoes, onions, zucchini, eggplant, potatoes and beans.
[9] Lemon juice
The lemon juice on the meat and the spices give the skewer its unique taste.
